Frequently Asked Questions

An RFP (Request for Proposal) is a formal request from a company or agency asking vendors to submit bids for services. Winning an RFP can lead to long-term, high-value contracts — but the process is competitive and detailed.

A typical response includes a technical proposal, past performance, pricing, certifications, and detailed compliance responses. It’s not just writing — it’s strategy, storytelling, and meeting strict rules.

We offer a Pre-Proposal Readiness service that audits your internal materials (bios, policies, past projects, etc.) and identifies gaps before you pursue your first bid.

Compliance first — then clarity, confidence, and customization. We write to match the evaluator’s scoring rubric while highlighting what makes your organization a smart, reliable choice.

Many teams underestimate the time and expertise required. We bring structure, speed, and persuasive writing — so your team can focus on what they do best.

We do both. Our RFP Search Subscriptions deliver curated opportunities that match your capabilities — with optional analysis and strategy support.

NovaSel focuses on cybersecurity, legal, healthcare, education, service provision, and other sectors — where compliance, clear writing, and competitive positioning really matter.

From RFP release to deadline, timelines range from 2 to 4 weeks with occasional longer deadlines. Our proposal development process typically takes 10–21 days per RFP, depending on scope.

That depends on your bandwidth and goals. Some clients submit 2–3 high-quality bids per quarter, while others run a full pipeline monthly. We help you build a sustainable strategy.

We provide confirmation of submission and optional post-submission archiving. If shortlisted, we can help you prepare for presentations, interviews, BAFOs (best and final offers), or clarifications.

Cybersecurity RFPs often include detailed technical requirements, incident response protocols, and compliance with frameworks like NIST, CMMC, or ISO. They demand precision, technical clarity, and proof of past performance — and that’s where we excel.

Absolutely. One of NovaSel’s strengths is translating complex industry solutions into compelling, evaluator-friendly language — while preserving accuracy and authority.

We specialize in helping small to mid-sized companies compete against larger players, particularly if RFP Proposals are new to the business. Our process helps you showcase agility, niche expertise, and compliance readiness — even without a full in-house proposal team.

We support responses to State, Local, and Education (SLED) RFPs—including opportunities from school districts, universities, municipal and county governments, hospital systems, legal aid providers, and other public entities seeking outside counsel.

Gladly. Many businesses have the experience but lack structured proposal language. We’ll also help shape bios, case narratives, and compliance language — all aligned to the RFP’s scoring criteria.

Yes. While confidentiality and risk clauses appear in most RFPs, legal RFPs often carry additional complexity. We’re experienced in addressing legal-specific issues like conflict waivers, privilege protections, indemnification, and attorney-client confidentiality. We ensure responses align with the expectations of law departments, legal aid agencies, and corporate counsel panels—balancing compliance with your firm’s risk tolerance.

NovaSel blends two powerful ideas: Nova— from Latin meaning new, also used in astronomy to describe a sudden burst of brightness from a star. It suggests innovation, clarity, and breakthrough energy — exactly what we bring to chaotic or unclear RFPs. Sel — phonetically echoes sellselect, or strategyelevation. It implies precision, decision-making, and business outcomes. In reality it is our founder’s name spelled backward. A bit of fun.  Lesa Von

Yes. We support grant applications, particularly when strategy, narrative development, compliance review, and positioning are required. We do not provide fiscal sponsorship, financial reporting, or post-award grant management.

Grant applications often place greater emphasis on mission alignment, community impact, and outcomes, while RFPs focus more heavily on qualifications, experience, and compliance. The underlying strategy (clarity, alignment, and evaluator-focused writing) is similar, but the framing and priorities differ.

We help assess grant fit by reviewing eligibility requirements, evaluation criteria, competitiveness, and alignment with your organization’s capacity and goals. Not every opportunity is worth pursuing, and discernment is part of the process.

Both. Engagements can include early-stage strategy, content development, compliance review, editing, or full end-to-end proposal support. The level of involvement depends on your needs, timeline, and internal capacity.

We do not guarantee awards, submit proposals on your behalf without collaboration, or provide legal, financial, or compliance sign-off services. Our role is strategic and editorial to help you present your strongest possible case.
